NRV Hike for Hospice

Good Samaritan Hospice’s 2nd annual NRV Hike for Hospice is a community fundraiser which raises funds to support our extensive bereavement and grief counseling services offered throughout the New River Valley.
The Hike for Hospice will include lunch, a blue grass band, games, fishing, three different group hikes at varying degrees of difficulty, and a memorial ceremony with a dove release.

EVENT TIME: 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm; Hikes start at 2:00pm
EVENT CENTRAL LOCATION: Claytor Lake State Park / Picnic Shelter 1
Hikes will be led by Claytor Lake Park rangers!
Easy Hike – .75 Mile Walk
This route leads participants down a lovely winding paved path following along the shore of the lake and around the historical Howe House. This easy hike is just under a mile long and will be a leisurely stroll allowing for you to take in the beautiful views offered at your own pace. The paved path is also ADA accessible and a good option for children and strollers.
Moderate Hike – 1.0 Mile Hike
This hiking path will take participants up into the hilly terrain around the lake along the Shady Ridge Trail. The hike is just over a mile long and loops around to finish where it starts right across from the Picnic Shelter #1 where all the festivities will be held. Expect a few climbs during this hike and wear appropriate hiking shoes.
Advanced Hike – 2.0 Mile Hike
This hiking path will take participant further up into the hilly terrain around the lake. The route will at first follow the same path as the Moderate Hike but will then extend further along the Shady Ridge Trail as well as Bent Ridge Trail to offer participants a little over 2 mile hike.
