Where are you from?
Grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, home of Lake Effect Snowfall, hence why I am no longer there…
What Walkabout location do you work at?
I am the manager in Lexington, the first and greatest!
What do you enjoy most about working at Walkabout Outfitter?
Our awesome customers. It’s great to be able to get them ready for their best adventures and knowing what a great time they will have. Working in a local Mom-and-Pop store runs a close second, it means way more than a giant national chain store.
What is your first childhood memory of camping or being outdoors?
One summer when I was in Junior High, my mom loaded up the station wagon with a Coleman tent and a kerosene suitcase stove and drove my brothers and I from Ohio to Washington, we camped every night and saw so much- Wisconsin Dells, the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, The Grand Tetons; then we spent the summer in a rented house in Montana, fly-fishing and climbing the Beartooth Mountains. A life-changer for a city girl!
What first interested you in the outdoors?
I always wanted to be outdoors. Growing up in the suburbs, there was a ravine with a creek across the street that ran for a few miles, I explored every inch of it as a kid and had secret hideaways where I would go to escape the sound of traffic and city life.
What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Trail riding my horses in the incredible Virginia countryside and introducing my son to hiking and camping.
What is your “must have” piece of gear from Walkabout Outfitter?
My Arc’teryx Nuclei jacket- the most comfortable coat I have ever owned. So light you forget it’s on but never get cold.
What has been your most exciting outdoor adventure?
Traveling in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii. Such different environments, flora, and fauna. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, viewing the fjords, and hiking up a volcano to see the sunrise. Seeing the redwoods in CA and kayaking off the coast of Maine are tied for second place. There’s so much out there and so little time!
If you could have your “Dream Expedition”, where would you go?
Domestically, I want to take my son to hike in the Grand Canyon, an area in the US I haven’t yet been. Internationally, I’ve always wanted to go to Morocco…
