5 Fabrics Cool Enough for Summer

5 Fabrics Cool Enough for Summer

Summer fabrics are lightweight and cool but full of color, fresh, and fun. When it comes to transforming your home for the summer months, switching a few fabrics for summer can bring that summer feeling into your house. These are the coolest fabrics for summer, from linen and cotton to silk and rayon.

1. Linen

Great for: sofa covers, bedding, and cushions.

Linen is a natural fabric, and it's one of the most breathable fabrics you can choose for warm weather. Naturally cool and breathable, linen can be washed with regular laundry detergent, just like cotton. Linen has been used for thousands of years because it's durable, easy to care for, and suitable for any season.

2. Cotton

Great for: bedding, indoor sofas, and blankets.

Cotton is breathable, comfortable, and versatile. It's easy to care for, as cotton is easily washed with mild detergent by hand or machine in cold water. Cotton dries quickly and doesn't hold odor like other fabrics. Cotton comes in many different weights and textures, so it's easy to find something for your summer needs.

3. Silk

Best for: bedding, pillows, throws, and cushions.

Silk is a beautiful fabric made from cocoons of silkworms. It's soft, light, and breathable, perfect for summer. Silk is expensive, but it's durable and easy to clean.

4. Nylon

Best for: bedding, sofa covers, outdoor cushions, and blankets.

Nylon is a synthetic fiber made from a combination of polymers called polyamide. Because nylon resists wrinkles well, it's also used in fabrics like sheets where you want a more crisp texture once ironed out after washing them on your bed at night time.

5. Chambray

Best for: outdoor pillows, sofas, and blankets.

Chambray is a soft and lightweight fabric, usually made from cotton. It’s a plain-weave fabric, which means it has no obvious pattern or texture woven into the cloth itself. The most common chambray is blue and white, but you can find it in other colors.

Time to Upgrade Your Home’s Fabrics for Summer

All of these fabrics can be fun, summery, and cool. When looking for summer fabrics, try to stick with naturally-made fabric that will give you a fresher, more durable look that instantly gives out that summer feeling.
