Fall Wedding Checklist

If you’re choosing to have your wedding in the fall, it’s probably because you’re drawn to the natural coziness, charm, and warmth the season offers. The stunning foliage and crisp air can create a magical storybook setting as you tie the knot. So, to make sure your special day fully embraces the season’s beauty, here are five important details to consider when planning your fall nuptials.

1. The Dress

Your dream dress should make you feel your best on your big day. But, for an autumn wedding, there are some extra details worth considering. Fall weather can be unpredictable, with warm afternoons and cooler temperatures in the evening.

Depending on the time of your ceremony, the venue, and the local climate, it might be a good idea to plan for a shawl or long sleeves to keep you cozy and ready to dance the night away—even if the temperature drops.

2. The Venue

Fall is a popular time of year for weddings. So, make sure to research and book your top choice for a venue plenty of months in advance. Depending on the venue’s popularity, you may even need to book it a year ahead of time.

If you’re planning an outdoor venue, consider a backup plan for inclement weather. For example, if you want to have your ceremony in an open field and then host the reception in a barn on the same property, you could make a contingency plan to hold the wedding ceremony inside the barn as well, if needed.

3. The Decor

Couples often choose warm earth tones as a color palette for their fall wedding. Once you’ve finalized your venue, it can be helpful to select decor that complements its features and natural surroundings. As inspiration, here are some common color combinations for fall weddings:

  • Rust and sage
  • Burgundy and mauve
  • Apricot, cranberry, and copper
  • Jewel tones
  • Amber and cream

As mentioned above, fall weddings are often associated with more rustic settings and decor, including items like dried florals, foliage, seasonal blooms, jute, wood, and other natural materials.

4. The Menu

You may be limited to certain vendors or caterers depending on the venue you book. But, if possible, you might want to look into fall menu options for hors d’oeuvres, entrees, and desserts. This way, you can further highlight the beauty of the season and create and warm and memorable dining experience for your guests.

5. A Memorable Moment

No matter the dress you wear, the venue you book, the food you serve, or the decoration you select, your fall wedding will be an unforgettable day that you, your partner, friends, and family will remember for the rest of your lives.

But, if you want to incorporate a once-in-a-lifetime, symbolic experience into your celebration, consider a wedding butterfly release. This can be the perfect addition to your wedding, symbolizing new beginnings and the love you and your partner share.
